Massage Method for Treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Finger Massage

Finger joint compression: Begin by gently compressing from the tip to the base of the patient’s fingers.
Finger traction: Use two fingers to gently pull the other fingers.
Finger rolling: Use two fingers to apply pressure in opposite directions along the finger joints.
Finger movements: Rotate, bend, clench, extend, pull the finger joints.

Palm Massage

Palm rubbing: Place the patient’s palm between the therapist’s two hands and start rubbing.
Palm pressing: Use the thumbs alternately to press into the palm.
Palm kneading: Use the fleshy parts of the thumb and little finger of the therapist to knead the palm.
Deep finger pressure into the palm crevices: Alternate pressure into the crevices using both thumb fingers.

Thumb Massage

Thumbback rubbing: Place the patient’s hand in between the therapist’s hands and rub the thumbback.
Thumb crevice pressure: Use the thumb finger to apply pressure into the thumb’s crevices.
Thumbback rolling: Use the thumb’s tip to roll.
Locate painful points and apply pressure to them.
Acupressure: Stimulate acupuncture points such as Yangchi, Hegu, Yangxi, Taichong, Daling, etc.

Wrist Massage

Wrist joint movements: Perform rotations, flexions, extensions, and tilts of the wrist.
Wrist rotation: Use one of the therapist’s hands to hold the patient’s hand, and the other hand to hold the patient’s wrist and move it clockwise and counterclockwise.
Wrist flexion: Use one of the therapist’s hands to hold the patient’s hand, while the other hand holds the patient’s wrist and starts moving towards the palm.
Wrist extension: Use one of the therapist’s hands to hold the patient’s hand, while the other hand holds the patient’s wrist and starts moving towards the back of the hand.
Wrist tilts: The therapist will hold the patient’s fingers, and tilt the wrist towards the fifth finger.

Forearm Massage

Compression of forearm muscles: The patient’s arm should be comfortably placed on the bed while the therapist proceeds to compress each muscle group in the forearm, both on the inner and outer sides.
Muscle kneading: The therapist will knead each muscle group in the forearm.
Front side of the forearm: Use the thumb of the therapist to knead the front side of the forearm.
Back side of the forearm: Perform the same kneading action as above.
Locate pain points and apply pressure
The therapist will perform acupressure by targeting points such as Kuchizi, Tianli, Shousanli, Neiguan, Tongli, Waiguan, Shenmen, etc., on the patient.
Joint flexion in the wrist: Gently massage and move the patient’s hand in the directions of flexion, extension, supination, and pronation of the wrist.
The duration for one acupressure session is approximately 30 minutes, with 10 minutes allocated for each area: the hand, wrist, forearm, and knuckles.
